What is Pool Water Analysis? How is Pool Water Analysis Conducted?

The cleanliness of swimming pools is critically important for health. Neglecting the cleanliness of swimming pools can lead to various infections. Particularly in public pools, the absence of regular disinfection processes can facilitate the spread of diseases. There are legal regulations concerning pool water analysis, which are crucial for public health.

What is Pool Water Analysis?

Pool water analysis is a type of testing conducted under the regulations outlined in the “Regulation on the Health Principles to be Followed in Swimming Pools.” The primary objective of this regulation is to determine, monitor, and inspect whether the water in open and closed swimming pools complies with hygienic conditions and quality standards.

For non-commercial pools, such as those in residential complexes used for personal purposes, AEM Laboratory offers pool water analysis services. In facilities with commercial pools, at least one sample should be taken and analyzed each month. Authorized laboratories for these analyses are Public Health Laboratories.

How is Pool Water Analysis Conducted?

The regulation mandates that commercial swimming pool operators perform physical, chemical, and microbiological analyses monthly. The regulation specifies the required parameters for swimming pools in “Appendix-1 Chemical Properties,” “Appendix-2 Physical Properties,” and “Appendix-3 Microbiological Properties.” Each parameter has a specified limit value.

During sampling, parameters that need to be measured instantaneously are recorded on-site using appropriate devices. Samples that include microbiological analysis content should be transported to the laboratory quickly and the analysis should commence as soon as possible. The sterilization of the sample container is crucial in microbiological analyses. Samples should be taken in sterile containers and transported under appropriate cold chain conditions. The analysis should begin within 24 hours at the latest.

Pool water analysis is completed by sampling, measuring, analyzing, and reporting.

Monitoring and Reporting

In commercial swimming pools, inspection and monitoring are conducted by the Public Health Directorates. Reports prepared by Public Health Laboratories are valid for swimming pools used for commercial purposes (e.g., hotels, schools, gyms). The values obtained from the analyses must comply with the limit values specified in the regulation.

AEM Laboratory, with its professional staff, technical capabilities, and commitment to quality service, is accredited by TURKAK for pool water analysis. It offers pool water analysis services for non-commercial pools as well. Samples are taken from customer facilities in accordance with the regulation, transported to the laboratory under suitable conditions, and analyzed as quickly as possible.

Importance of Regular Pool Water Analysis

Regular pool water analysis is essential for maintaining the health and safety of pool users. It helps in identifying and mitigating any potential health risks associated with contaminated or improperly treated pool water. Ensuring that pool water meets the required standards protects users from infections and promotes a safe and enjoyable swimming environment.

By adhering to the guidelines and regulations for pool water analysis, pool operators can ensure that their facilities provide a safe and hygienic environment for swimmers. This not only safeguards public health but also enhances the reputation and reliability of the swimming facility.

In summary, pool water analysis is a crucial process governed by strict regulations to ensure the safety and cleanliness of swimming pool water. Regular testing and adherence to the specified standards help in preventing the spread of diseases and maintaining a healthy swimming environment.
