Legionella Analysis

Legionella analysis is a type of analysis required under the Regulation on Legionnaires’ Disease Control Procedures and Principles, Regulation on Prevention of Risks of Exposure to Biological Agents.

Bacteria that can reproduce in humid environments can be carried by the humidity of the air and settle in the human body through respiration. There are two distinct diseases caused by Legionella bacteria, legionnaires’ and pontiac fever diseases. Sometimes the disease can be overcome without symptoms, but sometimes it can have fatal consequences if treatment is not sought.

Areas where precautions should be taken; central heating, cooling, ventilation systems or areas where water is located and used. Air conditioning, hot tubs, water tanks are places where breeding can occur. Sectors that need to pay particular attention are health and tourism, where crowded crowds of people gather or stay together.

Samples taken from the field are transported to the laboratory with a cold chain. The samples, which are concentrated by membrane filter or centrifugation method, are transferred to the media. After incubation and verification, results are obtained within 10-12 days.

The units affiliated to the Ministry of Health carry out inspections on Legionella analysis. AEM Laboratory is an organization accredited by Türkak for legionella analysis with its expert staff, technical facilities and quality service.
