Sampling Procedures

Sampling is a critical process in environmental laboratories. In order to report under environmental legislation, samples must be taken by authorized laboratories and certified employees.

Environmental laboratories authorized by the Environmental Reference Laboratory can report under environmental legislation by taking samples. For samples sent by the facility, a report is submitted that is not covered by environmental legislation. The Ministry organizes certification programs to enable authorized responsible persons to take samples. Samples taken only by people who participate in the Ministry’s sampling training and who do not work in the laboratory are not sufficient to prepare a report under environmental legislation. The acceptable sampling method is as follows: if the certified authorized person works in an authorized environmental laboratory, the sample taken can be reported within the scope of environmental legislation.
