Flue Gas Measurement

Flue gas measurement, also known as emission measurement, is a measurement or sampling and analysis process usually carried out on the roofs of industrial facilities or independently rising chimneys. Emission confirmation measurements must be repeated at the environmental permit stage and then routinely every 2 years.

Flue gas measurement within the scope of the Regulation on the Control of Industrial Air Pollution is carried out in the chimneys where the gases that accumulate within the enterprise, which may cause pollution, are discharged. In the Regulation, various chemical pollutants and their corresponding limit values are given in Annex-1 and Annex-5. If the pollutant with a limit value is present in the enterprise and discharged as gas through the chimney, it must be proved with the measurement report that the pollutant meets the limit value in this chimney.

There may be chimneys that need to be modified before measurement. Some of the modifications that can be made to meet the conditions specified in the Regulation on the Control of Industrial Air Pollution and measurement standards are opening sampling holes, increasing the length of the hat if there is a direct chimney or a hat on the chimney. In chimneys where it is unsafe to access the measurement point, different methods can be used to reach the sampling holes. For example; setting up a walkway, measurement platform or mobile scaffolding in the area where access will be provided, renting a crane…

For emission measurement, the measurement program is entered into the system of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The system gives a date 5 days at the earliest. Various information and documents are required for reporting after the measurement.

The reports of laboratories authorized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change regarding emission or flue gas measurement and analysis are valid. Launched in 2019, MELBES collects requests for flue gas measurement. MELBES assigns the requests to authorized laboratories. AEM Laboratory can be contacted for out-of-scope flue gas measurements for control purposes. If flue gas measurement is to be performed within the scope of environmental legislation, an application should be made to MELBES.

AEM Laboratory is an organization authorized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and accredited by Türkak for emission or flue gas measurement and analysis with its expert staff, technical facilities and quality service.
